Hamburg village talks web design and wireless

HAMBURG — The Village of Hamburg Board of Trustees gathered on Sept. 2 at the Hamburg Village Hall to discuss several ongoing questions, within the village.

During the work session that preceded the meeting, the village board returned to the previously discussed proposition of public Wi-Fi with graduate student Karl Swartz presenting the latest developments on the topic.

Since the board last addressed the Wi-Fi initiative, negotiations have moved away from Blue Wireless and have begun with the Relcom wireless company. Swartz said that details on the cost of village-wide wireless internet have yet to be defined and that further updates will be presented, at a later date.

During his presentation, Swartz also brought the board up to date on changes that are being made to the village of Hamburg website. Along with a more easily-accessible design and recent photographs of the area, Swartz said that the revamped website will provide new features such as a section designated to the history of the village, a new resident guide, a section to answer frequently asked questions and a number of downloadable and printable forms and permits for village citizens to access.

Swartz said that the team developing the restructured website hopes to have everything completed by Dec. 1, when the new features are projected to be put in place.

During the board meeting, a number of motions were put forth concerning building renovations and signage for local businesses. The board approved motions made by Deputy Mayor Thomas Tallman for two new signs to be erected at the Village Veterinary Clinic on Buffalo Street and a new sign and awning to be installed at the State Farm Insurance office on Main Street. Also approved was a motion by Trustee Laura Hackathorn concerning the building of a new sign at Davis’ Irish Pub on Pierce Avenue.
